Solo Exhibition Statement:
“Light & Shadow” is an exhibition that takes the viewer on a journey of sketches, studies, and finished works that have helped to shape and solidify Renee Rials’ perspective on where she was, where she is now, and what her intentional focus will be moving forward as a fine artist. “The more that I create, the more intrigued I am by the relationship between light and shadow and, too, the concept of creativity.” With the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, Rials took an extended hiatus from public view to tend to her family. What was impressed upon her at that time was the realization that she and her husband are raising a new generation of creatives in their three (3) children (a writer, an animator, and a cartoonist according to their individual passions) who not only support her work with enthusiasm but, from time to time, help name art pieces as they are completed. “Light & Shadow” represents, to Rials, a new phase in her art journey – a graduated awareness of what she is capable of, an excitement about implementing new ideas, and an anticipation of new works to come.
