Exhibition Statement:
Small World; Exponential Change!
It is a small world. Increasingly interconnected. Driven largely by the advent of the internet-of-things, hundreds of streaming communications and channels, never before has information - and unfortunately, misinformation - been so readily available. On a positive tip for Artists and Art enthusiasts, there has never been a better time, through social media networking and marketing, to connect directly with collectors, but also to create a community, and influence popular culture and social norms. One would think, in this small world, so many opportunities for cultural exposures would help us erase ignorance, embrace our similarities, and celebrate our differences. However, the power of these channels also gives voice and reinforcement to extremists and conspiracists. Thus, those with isolated hateful thoughts, can quickly find reinforcement. We need to acknowledge, Covid isn’t the only pandemic. Political polarity and extremism devastate our population, ripping apart families and friends, via our many media influences running rampant on the spectrum of hurtful non-truths and deceptiveness. Both the devastating pandemic and extremist politics led to tumultuous exponential change, taking our hearts and heads to a potentially catastrophic tipping point. Therefore, exponential change, as a force for the good, is also required from us going forward. We must continue to play outside the pseudo comfort zone of whatever once was and redirect the energy of seeming chaos into a positive direction.
